Fascinating Q&A with Film Producer of Freud's Last Session starring Anthony Hopkins

The Friends presented a screening of an intriguing film, hosted by one of its producers, Hannah Holloway.

Freud’s Last Session portrays an imaginary meeting between two men with very different views of the world: Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, who argued that human behaviour could be explained in terms of sexuality, and C. S. Lewis, an Oxford Don who wrote the Chronicles of Narnia and a number of books defending Christianity. Freud is played by Sir Anthony Hopkins, no less.

The film is set in 1939, just as the Second World War is breaking out. The “action” takes place at Freud’s house in Hampstead, where he had fled after Hitler’s annexation of Austria; in fact, the film consists almost entirely of dialogue, as the two protagonists engage in a friendly debate.

Afterwards, Hannah held a question-and-answer session. Among other things, we learned how the film was funded and made, how she became a film producer, and the one on everyone’s lips - what was working with Anthony Hopkins like?

As a result of this very interesting evening, the Friends were able to raise £645.
